RAVENS

Brand name: RAVENS / WBI & Co

Photo from Bob Piwarzyk

Brand Name: REGISTERED / RAVEN'S LODGE / DEWSBURY / TRADEMARK

Company: W.B.I. and Company

Location: Dewsbury, Yorkshire, England?

Years: 1840s or later?

Type: Fire brick

Description: Brand name impressed within a shallow rectangle frog.

Comments: Believed to be an imported brick brought to California as ship ballast. Direct evidence has yet to be established of a brick yard at Dewbury that may have used the name "Raven's Lodge" which property belonged to Jonathan Greenwood. A fire brick with the name "Raven's Lodge, Dewsbury" indicates that this could have been the source of the brick carrying the Raven's brand name.
